Exhibition featuring 17 large paintings created by Marcel Dargis, painter from Cap-de-la-Madeleine. Aged 95 and still active, Mr. Dargis’ paintings offer a unique, exceptional and realistic interpretation of French-speaking Quebec from yesterday to today. The paintings presented bear witness to important periods in our history, as well as notable characters from La Belle Province.
It was after his retirement in 1982 that Marcel Dargis devoted himself fully to painting. He is embarking on a new artistic career. Using his paintings, he recounts parts of his life when he was a child. He remembers and shares with us the Quebec of his memories, from the 1930s. He introduces us to pivotal moments in our history and the individuals who made Quebec what it is today. He brings us to meet characters larger than life and he presents his vision of our society, following the many changes it is undergoing. In summary, Marcel Dargis paints his world as he saw, felt and experienced it.
Over the past 40 years, Marcel Dargis has made an incredible contribution to the preservation of Quebec’s cultural heritage and traditions.
The image in the exhibition is a detail of the work The Devil of the Forges.
